Is nautilus the same as the default gnome file manager? Because I have no thumbnails on a fresh Ubuntu 24 install.
Yes, nautilus is the package name of the gnome file manager. Did You try this? After apply the fix you must empty (or just delete) the directory /home/$USER/.cache/thumbnails/fail don't worry, it will be recreated empty immediately afterwards

What is "the fix"? Going on over a month with no icons and it's becoming a daily pain.

I've read that post several times, including before responding to this thread, and do not see any "fix" there. Please help me understand what you think the fix is.
