Hey guys,
Just wanted to say i tried this howto with a huawei EC325 CDMA DataModem and it worked alright though it loads the usb drivers anyway from the begining of the process. I am Nigerian so for all those nijah ubuntu users it was what visafone gave and it works. Replied on the visafone link.
Cheers
Great tutorial. I've successfully configured two Novatel U727s to connect to Sprint. The devices show up as ttyUSB0 and ttyUSB4. They are automatically detected on boot. I've manually created the ppp0 and ppp1 connections with wvdial.
What I cannot find in the tutorial is how to automatically start the connections on boot. Do I put wvdial commands in one of the startup scripts? What is the best way?
Thanks for the tutorial. I am having a problem on the desktop computer: I just installed Hardy Heron on this machine. I can connect using the tethered LG phone and the PPP0 connection shows up when I type ifconfig but the connection isn't recognized by Network Monitor, and I can't connect to the net.
Do I need to update my programs? If so I'll have to find a different way to connect. I've already rebooted the machine.
ba_rich, you can add wvdial to the sessions menu so that it automatically starts, but I haven't tried it yet. The modem will have to be plugged in when you start the machine. Others have done it, so try searching this thread.
EDIT: Yes, it works!
And I fixed the desktop computer by unplugging it's Ethernet adapter...

Hello!
I have a PX-500. I have been trying to get this thing working. I have no other internet. I have got so far as:
Carrier detected. Starting PPP imediately
Unable to run /usr/sbin/pppd.
Check permissions, or specify a "PPPD Path" option in wvdial.conf.
Any thoughts???
Thanks a bunch,
Bill
Silly me, I typed "sudo wvdial" and it worked. Now it's surf city!
here is what i get...
i know i am so close!
Code:zimmerman@ubuntu-tablet:~$ wvdial --> WvDial: Internet dialer version 1.60 --> Cannot open /dev/modem: No such file or directory --> Cannot open /dev/modem: No such file or directory --> Cannot open /dev/modem: No such file or directory zimmerman@ubuntu-tablet:~$
HP 5101 netbook
Unplug your device and run this command
This will clear the info. Wait 20 seconds and plug it back in and run this command:PHP Code:
sudo dmesg -c
You should get a listing of where your device is located (dev/ttyUSB0 or something similar).PHP Code:
sudo dmesg
Use this info to add to your wvdial script.
It looks like you just need to add the name of the correct device.
(NOTE: This works in OpenSuse, so no guarantee it will work in Ubuntu, but it's worth a try).
